As a Police Officer James has been assigned to the Central Police Pool, Newark International Airport, and The Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit where he was promoted to Sergeant in October of 2005. As a Police Sergeant he was assigned to the PATH Command and the Emergency Service Unit, where he was promoted to Lieutenant in January of 2008. As a Police Lieutenant he has been assigned to the Special Operations Division, the George Washington Bridge, Newark Airport, the Lincoln Tunnel, and the Office of Emergency Management at Headquarters.

In the fall of 2013 James was elected to the Trustee position within Port Authority Lieutenant Benevolent Association.  Between 2016 and 2021 James held the positions of Recording and Corresponding Secretaries.  James assumed the 2^nd Vice President position in April 2021, an 1^st Vice President position in March of 2022, he currently holds the position of President of the Association assuming office in July 2022 with the retirement of Quentin DeMarco.

James resides in Bergen County, New Jersey with his wife and 2 children.
