Message from the LBA President
First, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome our new promotes to the rank of Lieutenant. At present, the rank of Lieutenant has grown to the largest Association membership in the history of the Port Authority.
We are currently experiencing an Unprecedented challenging and tumultuous time in American Law Enforcement. There has never been a period in our national history when effective competent leadership is more needed in our profession. We are constantly confronted with false, misleading accusations regarding police use of force by special interest groups and elected leaders pandering to their political base.
Now more than ever, take solace in the fact that your union leadership is fighting on your behalf of your legal and contractual protections.
The LBA has retained the Quin Law group regarding the New York City Diaphram Compression Law to ensure the associations best interests are represented. On a state and federal level, we continue to actively engage with police unions through our affiliations with NAPO, PCNY, and the New York Association of PBAs to halt the unfair heinous attacks on or profession.
The Covid-19 Pandemic continues to be at the forefront of our personal and professional lives. As you all are aware the Center for Disease Control has recently eased restrictions on mask wearing guidelines and the states of New York and New Jersey are modifying donning restrictions. In reaction, we are awaiting Port Authority evaluation of existing departmental policies concerning exposure to the virus. The LBA Executive Board continues to work for your best interests as guidelines evolve and change and will keep the membership promptly advised as negotiations with labor and management continues.
Active negotiation for the generation of new Lieutenant Positions with Port Authority Police senior staff has commenced to ensure our involvement and representation in areas of critical importance within the department. We are actively pursuing additional positions in the areas of counterterrorism, communications, and agency fusion centers.
Lastly, we continue to engage Port Authority labor concerning the creation of contractual language For the recently adopted Memorandum of Understanding to ensure all the best interests of the Association are represented and memorialized.
